Upcoming Forest Landowner Education Programs

Just a reminder that registration is still open for the following Fall Events.  Register on-line or call today to reserve your space.  These qualify for Master Naturalist continuing education credits.

This tour will focus on natural resource management challenges and opportunities in SW Virginia, including oak regeneration, restoring mine sites, protecting water quality, wildlife, and harvesting timber on steep slopes.   Stops include the Jefferson National Forest, Cranes Nest Gob Recovery Project, St. Paul Wetlands Estonoa Project, and The Forestland Group’s property.  The $25 registration fee includes transportation, lunch and refreshments.

Join natural resource professionals and fellow landowners for a weekend in the woods October 30-31. This retreat will be held at Twin Lakes State Park in Green Bay, Virginia.  Participants will see forest management practices in action, learn about estate planning and passing their land on to their heirs, hone their tree identification skills and much more.  Registration is $45 and includes all meals Saturday, breakfast and lunch Sunday, refreshments throughout, and transportation.  Participants are responsible for obtaining their own lodging (RV camping and cabins are available in the park).

On this tour of Eastern Virginia, we will explore both traditional and non-traditional types of forest management in hardwood and pine forests.   Stops will include property owned by John Hancock Life Insurance and Dragon Run.  The $25 registration fee includes transportation, lunch and refreshments.
