Investigating Nature
Date: 08/25/2010 - Wednesday
Time: 3 Sessions: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., & 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
Description: Get ready to go into the woods! We are going to be using our senses to make observations about plants and wildlife that will help us understand how nature works. Make sure you wear close toed shoes and bring some water for this program. Fee is $2/person, $6/family.
Useful Garbage
Date: 08/26/2010 - Thursday
Time: 3 Sessions: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., & 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
Description: Everyone knows that we are responsible for keeping our planet clean and green. One of the ways we can help reduce our negative impact on the planet is to reduce the trash we create. We’ll show you how to craft useful objects that help wildlife out of common household garbage. Fee is $2/person, $6/family
Colonial Kids Games
Date: 08/27/2010 – Friday
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
Description: Come down to the Visitor Center to see what games children used to play during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Play a few innings of Town Ball. Race hoops against each other and play a game of catch called Graces. Appropriate for children 4 years old and up.
Geology Rocks!
Date: 08/28/2010 - Saturday
Time: 4 Sessions - 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
Description: Take the time to pause and get to know your local rocks better. Join us at the Visitor Center to see how rocks form, take a closer look at crystals, and break open your own geodes! Fee is $2/person, $6/family
Canoe Tour
Date: 08/28/2010 - Saturday
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Register at the Visitor Center and then meet at Canoe Launch
Description: Join a ranger for a guided canoe tour on the Powell's Creek. You'll get to see wildlife, marsh plants, and test your skills in a canoe. Please register with the Visitor Center before the tour. Fee is $9.00 per person, or $6.00 per person when reserving for groups of 4 or more.
Lovely Ladybugs
Date: 08/29/2010 - Sunday
Time: 4 Sessions - 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
Description: Did you know that ladybugs are actually beetles? Get to know these pretty insects better at the Visitor Center. We will watch a video that shows how they grow up, play a game of ladybug tag, and make ladybugs that you can take home. Fee is $2/person, $6/family.
Lee’s Woods Historic Hike
Date: 08/29/2010 - Sunday
Time: 2 sessions - 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Lee's Woods Trailhead
Description: Take a walk through the woods with a ranger and get to know the unique history of the land now known as Leesylvania State Park. You will see historic sites from the 1700's and the 1800's along this 2 mile trail. Meet at the Lee's Woods Trailhead.
Canoe Tour
